Why you need to add a cheeseboard to your kitchen arsenal now!
Wooden boards have taken center stage–in the kitchen that is. So, if you don’t have one yet, what are you waiting for? From big butcher blocks to artisan crafted beauties, here are three reasons why you needed one yesterday.
Versatile
Cheeseboards come in all different shapes, sizes and designs to fit your needs. Cookbook author Shelly Westerhausen, in her book “Platters and Boards”, says they can be a great way to use up leftover vegetables, cheese, or meats in your fridge. Depending on the type, it can also hang on your wall—adding organic elements to the décor and not taking up space in the cabinets.
Entertain
Don’t let the word “cheese” in cheeseboard make you think that’s all it’s good for. Omaily Lucas, food and entertaining blogger, says to have fun with it. Surprise guests and make it a dessert board with cheesecake bars, cookies and sweet dips. Or you can switch it to a salad board for a garden party. “It’s a dining essential that shows your skills as a host,” Lucas says.
Fad-Free
According to Westerhausen’s book, boards are taking center stage—so investing in a good board is going to be worth it in the long run. When taken care of, it will last years in the kitchen. Take it out when you want to add layers and texture or add a board with different shapes and materials to make something new. “No rules, just creativity!” Lucas says.
